Gainford Group has released stunning imagery showing how the city's newest leisure venue will look.
A new rooftop bar tucked between listed buildings on Newcastle Quayside is set to become one of the city’s most popular venues this summer.
Gainford Group, which owns hotels, bars and restaurants across the city including Aveika, The County Hotel, The Vermont Hotel and LIvello, is preparing to welcome back customers when the economy starts to reopen.
The Chester-le-Street company – which also owns the New Bridge Street Hotel, County Hotel, Vermont Aparthotel and a care home and nursery business – has taken time in lockdown to invest in a number of its bars and restaurants in Newcastle, including Livello and a new rooftop bar Above at the Vermont Hotel.
Now the firm has revealed how it has invested a significant sum into transforming a derelict patch of land, hidden from public view between Moot Hall, the Vermont Hotel and Livello into new outdoor venue The Crescendo.
The three-tier rooftop bar will have room for 200 people, with outdoor seating spread across each level, together with a bar area. With views taking in Dean Street and the surrounding historic architecture, Gainford Group directors want it to be accessible to hotel guests as well as Livello visitors, with access to the venue from both buildings.
Bookings are also set to be taken for private events, weddings and corporate functions. The Crescendo will also add 50 jobs to the team of staff also working across the Vermont Hotel, Livello and Above.
Director Imran Khaliq said: “It’s like a hidden oasis in the city, on a par with the likes of Above, and has such beautiful buildings around it, so I think it’s going to be really popular. We will have a booking system just for The Crescendo open soon but it won’t open until June 21 at the earliest, when social distancing rules are set to be removed."
“We bought the hotel in 2012 and this scrap of land has just been derelict since then. But we’ve had the time in lockdown to turn it into a rooftop bar for Livello and a separate venue in its own right basically. We’ve had the time to get it ready for everyone to see."
The courtyards and exterior terrace areas of Gainford Group venues, which also includes The Hudson adjoining The County Hotel – will be first to open, restrictions dependent, on April 12, and the Aveika terrace has been taking online bookings and is already fully booked for the first two months.
Booking systems will also soon be open for Gainford Group’s other venues.
